Road Closure

(State Police and Blair County, 12:52 p.m., 10/30/02) State Route 3012 (Old Route 22) was closed in Juniata Township due to downed trees. PennDOT is providing debris removal; SEOC will follow-up.

 

Notifications: Department of Transportation, State Police, Cambria County and PEMA Central and Western Regional Offices

 

Power Outage

 

(Blair County, 7:02 p.m., 10/30/02) One hundred homes in the Sinking Valley area of Tyrone Township have been without electrical power since 11:30 p.m., October 29, due to downed utility lines. Penelec anticipates restoration by Friday, November 1. The county and the power company have emergency personnel including the American Red Cross on standby in case shelters are needed. The SEOC will follow-up.

Power Outage

 

(Erie County, 5:00 p.m., 10/23/02) A power outage affecting 1,000 customers occurred in the city of Erie and Fairview Township. Penelec crews responded and restored service. A malfunctioning transformer caused the outage.

 

Incident terminated at 10:15 p.m.

Power Outage

 

(Indiana County, 2:22 a.m., 10/31/02) Approximately 100 customers of Southwest Rural Electric in southeastern Indiana County were without power. The utility company is working to restore service; SEOC will follow-up.

Follow-up - Power Outage

 

(Snyder County, 1:07 p.m., 10/30/02) Power remains out for approximately 8,000 residents in Snyder County. A temporary shelter was opened at Salem Church in Penn Township. Power was restored to the Snyder County 911 Center, but the communications towers in the Port Trevorton area remains on emergency generator. The Selinsgrove Sewage Treatment Center located in Penn Township also remains on emergency generator power. The Snyder County Courthouse is closed due to the power outage. The SEOC will follow-up.

(Northumberland County, status unchanged, 10/29/02)

 

Follow-up - Adverse Weather

 

The state's first winter storm has left approximately 13,000 Pennsylvania residents without power. Utility crews in Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Columbia, Indiana, Jefferson, Lycoming, Northumberland and Somerset counties continue to make repairs to utility lines brought down by heavy snow and ice. Restoration is anticipated for most customers by Thursday evening, October 31. A shelter was open in Penn Township, Perry County, to assist residents of Northumberland, Lycoming and Columbia. Many of the roads closed by the October 29 storm were reopened, but business Route 322 in Patton Township, Centre County, remains closed because of downed trees and power lines. The SEOC will follow-up.

State Weather Summary

 

(National Weather Service, 4:00 a.m., 10/31/02)

 

High pressure will build over the state today bringing a temporary end to the recent siege of cloudy wet weather. However, another cold front will approach overnight bringing a return to clouds and spotty precipitation.

 

Clouds will break up today allowing temperatures to make it into the 40s over most of the state. Clouds will increase once again tonight with snow showers reaching northwestern areas by morning. Lows will be in the 20s and 30s.

 

Friday will see plenty of clouds and snow showers over much of western Pennsylvania. Elsewhere a mix of sun and clouds will be the rule. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s.
