[STORMREPORTS] Morning Winter Storm Update - Power Out

The sun is up and the ice and snow are melting, finally, here at
WeatherMatrix HQ in State College PA. Thousands are without power
locally and 30,000 people are without power to our north. Numerous
roads and schools are closed.

"Centre Region Emergency Management declared a local
emergency in Patton Township late Wednesday night as wintry weather
continued to wreak havoc in Centre County. According to John Raynar,
evening
announcer for Hot107.9 FM, his radio station, along with WRSC 1390 AM
was off air from 8 to 9:30 p.m. WQWK 97.1 FM was off the air all day
Wednesday. The Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1665 N. Atherton St., lost power
for
approximately 45 minutes."

I would note about that last sentence -- that was because their
generator didn't work -- the entire west side of the city including that
area remains without power this morning (12 hours later) and only 75% of
the area expects power to be restored by tonight.

There were some beautiful photo opportunities this morning with the sun
illuminating the icy trees, and also as the fall color emerged from
beneath the snow-covered branches. I snapped a few with the digital
camera and will upload them tonight.
