Strong storms flooded many parts of the Houston area
Tuesday, stranding several residents and motorists.
News2Houston meteorologist Bill Bellis said that the
storms were caused by a cold front that is colliding
with a warm front that is bringing in moisture from
the Gulf of Mexico.
"As much as 7 inches of rain fell over parts of the
Houston area overnight," Bellis said.
The heavy rains flooded many streets and homes in
several parts of Houston, including the Bunker Hill
area, Dayton, the Greenspoint area and Jersey Village.
The severity of Monday night's storm caught many
people by surprise and left hundreds of them stranded.
Several intersections were still completely underwater
Tuesday morning, including a major crossing at Beltway
8 and Katy Freeway. The road was shut down after
several cars were buried under water.

The thunderstorms that rolled through the Houston area
Monday, capping off 10 straight days of rain, caused
widespread tornado alerts and street flooding that is
playing havoc with today's commuters.
Residents of Endless Forest on the banks of White Oak
Bayou were evacuated Monday night as water began
rising from the flooded bayou.
