[STORMREPORTS] Flooding Worsens Sinkhole Threatening To Swallow Highway, Restaurant

"Oct. 16, 2002 - Heavy rains in North Carolina are causing a few problems
for one Hickory restaurant. The restaurant is hanging on by a thread, as
the giant sinkhole in its parking lot grows. In August, the restaurant's
parking lot had two sinkholes. Now, the holes have merged together."

"The holes formed in the parking lot of Buffalo's Southwest Café during a 
heavy rain in August. Since then, they have continued to get bigger. They 
are about 45 feet deep, and officials said they are worried that more rain 
may continue to back up the system and cause the holes to get even bigger.

Flooding as a result of nearby sinkholes once again forced a shutdown of 
US-70 through Hickory."
