           TOTAL OF 39 RESIDENCES WERE
           DAMAGED RANGING FROM MINOR
           TO MAJOR. NO INJURIES AND
           NO FATALITIES. APPROXIMATE
           AREA WHERE DAMAGE OCCURRED
           LOUISIANA HIGHWAY 1
           AND HIGHWAY 400. REPORTED BY
           ASSUMPTION PARISH
           EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

"The Red Cross has opened a shelter for people affected by a tornado
that tore through Assumption Parish Wednesday.

The twister touched down in a residential area along Highway 400 between
Napoleonville and Labadieville, damaging up to 30 homes. Sheriff Mike
Waguespack says there were no injuries despite damage that easily could
have been lethal.

One mobile home was lifted completely off its foundation blocks, then
collapsed after dropping back to the ground. The storm hurled a large
2-by-4 spear through the wall of another home. High winds also toppled
several trees and ripped roofs off some houses. Officials say two people
were trapped inside one building briefly, but they were able to get
out."
