[STORMREPORTS] High Wind Gusts, Tornados in Louisiana

From: Jesse Ferrell (WeatherMatrix) (jesse{at}weathermatrix.net)
Date: Thu Oct 03 2002 - 14:52:20 EDT

High wind gusts were recorded in Louisiana around noontime today.

NWS stations:

Lafayette: 73 mph (KLFT) (60 mph sustained)
http://www.accuweather.com/adcbin/current_index_large?metsta=LFT&time=12&BtnMet=Decoded&nav=meteo&partner=6037&type=metar

New Iberia: 91 mph (KARA) (46 mph sustained)
http://www.accuweather.com/adcbin/current_index_large?metsta=ARA&time=12&BtnMet=Decoded&nav=meteo&partner=6037&type=metar

Ironically, there was a NWS station at Vermilion on Avery Island, which
is pretty much where landfall was. But it has not reported for some
time.

AWS stations hard to determine due to outages and slow response. The
highest I saw was:
KATC-TV (AWS Station): 71 mph

Several tornados were reported, here are preliminary reports from the
