"Federal Emergency Management Director Joe Allbaugh met with Gov. Mike
Foster in Baton Rouge, and they were scheduled to make a helicopter tour of
flood damage in and around New Orleans, which had been hit particularly
hard with street flooding after a foot of rain.

Debbie Conrad, a spokeswoman for the state emergency preparedness office,
said 34,000 people remained without power and approximately 2,200 homes
were damaged in the storm. Officials were still compiling a damage estimate.

In southern Mississippi and Alabama, Isidore forced evacuations and road
closures. Both states declared states of emergency. Eleanor Strothman, a
spokeswoman with the American Red Cross ( news - web sites) in Jackson,
Mississippi, said that more than 1,600 people had sought refuge in 23 state
shelters, most of them along the coast."
