Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the high desert of the Mid Atlantic.
My homestead in the hills is experiencing one of the warmest Septembers in
the last quarter century. The ironic thing is that the average maximum
temperature is actually a tad below normal. My station is backing into a near
record warm September because the average minimum temperature is about nine
degrees above average. On September 21 the min. was 71 degrees which ties the
September high minimum set on several occasions. The drought continues to
worsen. The extreme drought has destroyed crops, dried up wells, brought on
water restrictions in numerous towns, and has even brought on a new building
ban in Frederick, MD. The September rainfall total for my station is 0.56
inches. The precipitation is 9.47 inches below average for the year and 45.58
inches below average since the drought began in July 1998. Needless to say
all the locals are out in the yard doing the "Come on up here Isadore" dance.
We are desperate for some rain. Until later.
Jim
