"Central Indiana - The Indianapolis Power and Light Company is reporting
that more than 60,000 people are without power at this time, and IPL
expects that number to grow. The outages are mostly on the Indianapolis
southeast side. The company says trasformer and distribution centers have
been damaged. One of the hardest hit area seems to be near US 31 just north
of Greenwood Park Mall. Serveral buildings have reportedly been flattened
around the Galyans store there. Also, there are reports of tornado
touchdowns at Stop 11 and McFarland and at the YMCA at Baxter. Reports
indicate that a tornado was also on the ground at 21st Street and Franklin
in Indianapolis."

"INDIANAPOLIS-- Severe storms raked Indiana on Friday, destroying dozens of
homes, uprooting trees and downing power lines in some of the worst storm
damage to hit the state in years. In Greenwood, just south of
Indianapolis, police reported that at least 40 cars were flipped over by
strong winds as the storm struck Greenwood Park Mall, damaging some of its
businesses. On Indianapolis' far south side, a YMCA building (pictured,
left) sustained heavy damage. Employees there told RTV6's Rafael Sanchez
that no one there was seriously injured in the storm, which tore off a
portion of its roof. Indiana State Trooper Jackie Taylor said 10 to 12
houses were confirmed destroyed along with a portion of an apartment
complex in the Ellettsville area about 50 miles south of Indianapolis. At
the Circle Center Mall in downtown Indianapolis, heavy rainfall caused a
roof drain fitting to break, drenching a third floor food court with water.
Julie Rule, marketing director for the Simon Property Group that owns the
mall, said nobody was hurt."
