A strong storm system that dumped torrents across the
Houston area Thursday afternoon, flooded some roads in
northeast Harris County and Liberty County.
Street flooding reported in southwest Houston left
some motorists stranded around Bellaire and Beechnut.
Flood warnings were in effect Thursday night for
Liberty, Harris and Galveston counties.
A Harris County Office of Emergency
Management(http://www.hcoem.org) sensor recorded more
than 4 inches of rain in a 3 hour period Thursday
afternoon and evening near FM 1960 and the Liberty
County line. The weather service said several roads in
that area and around Dayton and Liberty were flooded.
Rainfall amounts varied greatly around Harris County,
with some areas recording zero and most others
receiving 1 to 2 inches.
Reports up to 12 inches in Liberty County(20 miles NE
of downtown Houston) caused a train derailment near
Dayton. The derailment resulted from a flash flood
that washed out the soil and created a hole 60 feet
long, 10 feet wide and 4 feet deep.
