OK folks keep in mind that the StormReports list is
not a FORECASTING list :) That's over here:
http://wxmatrix-membersonly/group/wx-forecast/
To maintain our current level of subscribers I would
prefer that only observations, imagery, links, media
reports, etc. be sent to this list.
SPEAKING OF... someone mentioned earlier that many
people are unsure of the track of the storm. I would
like to say that the we are unaware of what it's doing
RIGHT NOW... observations out of Cuba are bad at best,
one synoptic station, which isn't reporting... a
couple of METAR stations which are not inside the
storm and are sputtering observations... for obvious
reasons there are no webcams in Cuba, or independent
weather stations on the Internet. No comments are
making it to the GoBeach site from Cuba either.

No buoys in the area... not any ships close either.

If anyone here can read Recon obs
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/reconlist.shtml
I would like a translation as to what they are saying
about surface conditions, if anything.
Cuban radar is looking impressive... seeing its
closest pass of the storm with torrential rains.

A rough translation of their advisory says
"In the Island of Youth intense rains with accumulated
have taken place of 178 millimeters in End of the East
and of 124 millimeters in New Gerona. In the first
hours in the morning the winds in the Island of Youth
have blown with values maintained between 80 and 96
kilometers per hour and gusts of wind of up to 133
kilometers per hour in End of the East. In the
province of Pine of the River the winds have been
increased, with maintained winds of 58 kilometers per
hour and gusts of wind of 108 kilometers per hour in
the city of Pine of the River at the end of the
morning."
133kph is 83mph. 178mm is 7.12"
