Large lake in China is near its break point, threatening millions of
people, due to recent flooding there. Here is a clip from an article from
Reuters. Photos are available on the full-story page:

"DONGTING LAKE, China (Reuters) - China's vast Dongting Lake swelled toward
its peak on Sunday morning with local officials reasonably confident their
battle to prevent it swamping millions of homes would prove successful.
Few officials in the region around the 1,000-square-mile lake were sure
there would be no widespread flooding of an area that is home to 10 million
people when the flood crest driving down the Yangtze River arrives on
Sunday morning.
But they said the lake had little further to rise and it was likely to be
around one meter (three feet) short of causing a major disaster.
Even a return of the heavy rain -- predicted for Sunday -- which pounded
Henan and neighboring provinces for days this month should mean only that
Dongting's waters would recede more slowly, they said."
