Dave Down here from Powhatan, VA.

I must concur, Steve. People's wells are drying up all over the place. When I observe the precipitation patterns on radar, it's almost as if they have a mind of their own and want to miss the area. We did get a couple good thunderstorms about 3 weeks ago, but it has been so dry that those storms are a distant memory.

What bugs me is when the Weather Channel talks about tropical sysems dying or not forming in the Atlantic, right after they talk about how bad the drought is! Tropical systems, despite their destructive power, are good drought-busters for us inlanders!

Hi,
Today in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, we hit a high of 106 degrees. Today's
high heat index was around 115. Right now, at 10.42 PM, it is still 90
degrees. All the lakes in this area, and rivers are starting to dry up. It
seems to be a desert out there. If you walk into your yard, dust comes
flying up. This month (as of August 23, 2002) we have only had 0.08" of
rain. We are drying up. Several miles from me, there is a major lake,
called, Lake Chesdin. It supplys water for Chesterfield, and some parts of
Dinwiddie County (also, might supply water to some other counties, not
sure.) It is getting lower everyday. I have lived here all my life, and I
have NEVER seen it this low before, it will probably get lower before this
is all over.
