[STORMREPORTS] More Information On Eastern IA Tornado Event

OVERVIEW FOR WEDNESDAY AUGUST 21, 2002 TORNADO EVENT IN EAST CENTRAL
IOWA PROVIDED BY WEATHERDUCK AND WEATHERMATICS OF EASTERN IOWA AND
NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS
 
        ...Tornadoes touched down earlier this evening in Muscatine
County...
 
A line of strong to severe storms moved across eastern Iowa late
this afternoon and early evening. At the southern end of the
line...a separate storm developed over southeast Johnson County
and moved east into Muscatine County. This storm produced funnel clouds
over both Muscatine and Scott counties and at least one tornado in
Muscatine County. The storm rapidly weakened as it moved northeast
across western Scott County.
 
Preliminary information from reports received at the National Weather
Service in Davenport indicated a tornado touched down 2 miles north of
Muscatine at 617 PM CDT. This tornado damaged or destroyed a few
buildings on the east side of Highway 38 and damaged numerous trees at
the Municipal Golf course. Other funnel clouds were then observed 4
miles west of Montpelier and 2 miles north of Blue Grass.
 
No injuries were reported to the National Weather Service this evening.
This information is preliminary. A storm damage survey will be conducted
by the National Weather Service on Thursday and more detailed
information will be made available.

STOCKTON...OR 4 MILES NORTH OF MUSCATINE...MOVING EAST AT 35 MPH.
 
AT 615 PM CDT LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED...DEBRIS WITH TREES
UPROOTED AND HOUSES DAMAGED 3 MILES NORTH OF MUSCATINE.
 
AT 621 PM CDT...SPOTTERS INDICATED A TORNADO 9 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
STOCKTON...OR 7 MILES SOUTH OF WILTON...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH.
 
AT 625 PM CDT A TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTER REPORTED...FUNNEL CLOUDS
WEST OF MONTPELIER.
 
AT 631 PM CDT...SPOTTERS INDICATED A PROBABLE TORNADO 5 MILES SOUTHWEST
OF STOCKTON...OR 5 MILES SOUTH OF DURANT...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH.
 
AT 636 PM CDT...SPOTTERS INDICATED A TORNADO 4 MILES WEST OF BLUE
GRASS...MOVING EAST AT 20 MPH.
 
AT 645 PM CDT A TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTER REPORTED...A FUNNEL HALFWAY
DOWN TO THE GROUND 1 MILE WEST OF BLUE GRASS.
 
AT 646 PM CDT...SPOTTERS INDICATED A TORNADO OVER BLUE GRASS...MOVING
EAST AT 20 MPH.
 
AT 655 PM CDT A TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTER REPORTED...A FUNNEL CLOUD
GREATER THAN 50 PERCENT DOWN 3 MILES NORTH OF BLUE GRASS. A WALL
CLOUD WAS ALSO REPORTED NEAR WALCOTT.
 
AT 702 PM CDT...SPOTTERS INDICATED A PROBABLE TORNADO 3 MILES NORTHEAST
OF BLUE GRASS...MOVING EAST AT 20 MPH.
