"Asia Braces for More Rain After Weekend Floods (Reuters)
Heavy rains lashed Asia from Japan to the Indian subcontinent Monday as the
monsoon and typhoon season wreaked havoc across the region and more bad
weather was forecast in the days ahead.

Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands left homeless in
the last few days by a spate of heavy rains and floods that have washed
away roads and bridges and destroyed vast areas of crops.

Powerful Typhoon Phanfone churned north along Japan's Pacific coast Monday,
drenching parts of the country with heavy rain and disrupting transport,
but it was not expected to hit the mainland directly.

China braced for further rains after a series of landslides and flash
floods killed up to 150 people in southwestern Yunnan the space of a few
days, state media and local officials said.
In India, heavy monsoon rains in the far-flung northeast caused bloated
rivers to overflow into villages and paddy fields, forcing thousands of
people to move to higher ground."
