This station, located in extreme Northwest South Carolina, was hit by
a severe thunderstorm this afternoon. We experienced torrential
rain, totalling 2.13" in less than an hour, and a wind gust of
41mph! Our house received minor damage, losing some vinyl off the
edge of the roof. We were without power for over three hours.
Reports have come in from around the area of power lines being down,
many trees and tree limbs also down. A friend's house a couple of
miles from here was struck by lightning and destroyed. Fortunately,
no one was home at the time. After a very dry summer, seems as though
Mother Nature is trying to make it all up in a few days. Since last
Thursday night, we have received 5.01" of rain!
