Storms tip trucks, zap power service
2002-08-14
By Mac Bentley
The Oklahoman
"A return to normal August weather is expected today for most of
Oklahoma after a series of damaging thunderstorms ripped through the
state Tuesday.
High winds knocked over three tractor-trailer rigs early Tuesday in
Kay County, signaling the arrival of a strong cold front that
produced thunderstorms and electricity outages. The outages primarily
were in middle and north-central counties.
...
Rain drenched much of the northern half of Oklahoma, although it once
again missed the western-most part of the Panhandle. The storms
accompanied a cold front that kept afternoon temperatures in the 70s
for much of the state.
...
Straight winds downed power poles around Blackwell, according to Kay
Electric. Spokesman Steve Conner said he couldn't estimate the number
of outages, but he expected everyone to have power by Tuesday
evening.
Flooding on the southbound side of I-35 in Kay County was reported by
the highway patrol, but the road was not closed."
