"Unrelenting monsoon rains claimed another nine lives in India and eight in
Bangladesh on Wednesday, raising the death toll from floods in the South
Asian region to 500, relief officials said. Fed by torrential monsoon

villages. The flooding is the worst in four years. "

"The operation took place after the hotel's power failed during heavy rain

halls, relief officials said Monday."
Gale force winds continued to batter the city Monday morning, but the
weather bureau forecast they would abate later in the day. "
Meanwhile in eastern South Africa, mopping up operations continued
following a week of snowfalls and heavy rain, which destroyed about 3,000
homes, downed power lines and damaged roads.
