"WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation is experiencing one of its mildest tornado
seasons in years, the National Weather Service ( news - web sites) reported
Thursday.
There had been 451 tornadoes through July 24, the agency said. That's the
lowest since 1988 and compares with an average of 914 through mid-July over
the last decade.

Since 1950, only 11 years have seen so few tornadoes during the same
period, according to the agency."
