[STORMREPORTS] Heat and Humidity in Eastern NC

From: Jesse Ferrell (WeatherMatrix) (On Vacation) (jesse{at}weathermatrix.net)
Date: Wed Jul 31 2002 - 11:39:51 EDT

REPORT FROM PARADISE:

It has been rather steamy thus far on my vacation through eastern North
Carolina and southeast Virginia. Yesterday morning at 7am, heat indexes
were already over 100 in places (103 at Virginia Beach, which also
reported an AccuWeather RealFeel temperature of 111) and Manteo). I
measured a heat index of 107 here on Oak Island at 11am.

The official report from Southport, which is a little further inland from
the ocean, was 104. Both Virginia Beach and Elizabeth City reached a Heat
Index of 116 yesterday afternoon. The entire eastern half of North Carolina
was in the 100's for heat indexes and several locations tipped over the
century mark for actual temperatures.

Below is a link to the nearest official site on the island (Southport)
where I am located.

They have reported dewpoints of 80 yesterday afternoon for several
observations, with a low temperature of 82 last night. Oceanfront, my
instruments have indicated highs in the low to mid 90s with lows in the mid
80s all week thus far.
