NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATE COLLEGE PA
401 PM EDT MON JUL 29 2002

...TORNADO DAMAGE CONFIRMED IN WARREN COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA...

THIS AFTERNOON A SURVEY TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND
WARREN COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY CONDUCTED A STORM SURVEY IN
WESTERN WARREN COUNTY.

DAMAGE WAS CONFIRMED TO BE FROM A TORNADO THAT TOUCHED DOWN NORTH OF
PITTSFIELD ON ROUTE 6. THE TORNADO DAMAGED 5 HOMES AND KNOCKED DOWN
APPROXIMATELY 100 TREES.

THE TORNADO WAS 100 YARDS WIDE AND JUST OVER 3 MILES LONG. WIND
SPEEDS WERE ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND 100 MPH WHICH MAKES THIS TORNADO
A F1 ON THE FUJITA SCALE.

THE WORST DAMAGE OCCURRED NEAR BROOKS ROCK ROAD NORTH OF
PITTSFIELD. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN AROUND
1230 PM AND WAS ON THE GROUND FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES.

Crawford County...

NWS CLE has not issued a Public Information Statement as of yet...but
they told the Erie Times-News that an FO touched down near
Crossingville, PA. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Severe storms pound Erie, surrounding area
By Robin Cuneo

...The weather service confirmed that a tornado touched down in
Crawford County Saturday evening. The funnel cloud caused only minor
damage about a mile and a half south of Crossingville about 6 p.m. It
was the weakest classification of tornado, with winds of about 75
mph, meteorologist Jim Kosarik said.
