"According to John Wiersma, Veridian's President and CEO, "Both of these
outages were due to failures in Hydro One's electricity supply to
Veridian". He adds, "The interruption in Cannington was caused by a Hydro
One pole toppled by high winds, and our Clarington customers were affected
by a direct lightening strike at Hydro One's transformer station in north
Oshawa".
About 350 electricity customers in Cannington had to do without power
between 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. In Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono, more than
10,000 homes and businesses were in the dark between 3 and 4 p.m."
