Hidi-ho good neighbors. At 4:11 this afternoon a thunderstorm rolled past my
homestead in the hills. I received a 54 mph wind gust but only 0.10 inches of
rain from the event. Very disappointing because my extreme drought continues
to worsen. The 54 wind gust was the second 50+ mph wind gust of July tying a
record for most 50+ mph wind days in a month. I had a thunderstorm with a 61
mph wind gust on July 9. This comes on the heels of a F 0 tornado that struck
my home on June 27 taking part of my roof and destroying my weather station
(God rest it's soul). My anemometer recorded a wind gust of 81 mph before the
anemometer, the metal pole holding it, and a portion of my siding was ripped
from the house. My homestead in the hills seems to be a magnet for tornadoes.
This was the third tornado to hit my station since 1996. The other two being
an F 0 on June 29, 2000 and a F 1 on July 19, 1996. My home owners insurance
company will no longer cover my home for tornado damage. Go figure! Until
later.
Jim
