In the northeast region of Suceava, torrential rains flooded 400 farms and
300 hectares (740 acres) of crops. A river bursts its banks, flooding
churches and several other buildings.
Viorel Macovei was walking a street Friday in the village of Pietreni when
he was swept away by the 1.5 meter (5 feet) deep water rapidly coming down
a hill, said Gheorghe Martin, the chief government official for the
Constanta county. "
