Building piece falls, mashes car
Fri Jul 19, 6:54 AM ET
By Andrea Misko, Beacon Journal staff writer
There was no rain in downtown Akron early Thursday evening, but a single
bolt of lightning sure made an impression.
The bolt struck the top of the Evans Building on South Main Street,
blowing off a piece of its cornice, which landed on a black 1987 BMW
parked below.
No one was injured. And while the car sustained substantial damage, the
building fared well.
Still, the sidewalk and the lane closest to the building will remain
closed today to allow a thorough inspection, said Akron Fire Capt.
Douglas Ott.
``It's just a safety precaution,'' he said.
