According to the National Climatic Data Center, since July 1998, the
total precipitation deficit exceeded 55 inches in Greenville, S.C.
and 65 inches in Columbia, S.C. At my station located about 40 miles
West of Greenville, I have recorded only 2.49" of rain since June 1
and only .40" this month. Todays high temperature of 96 and no rain
continues to add insult to injury.
