Like the rest of the mid Atlantic & northeast US, the Canadian smoke
plume obscured the sun Sunday. While biking to work, the sun seemed to
be obscured about by 65%. Later i noticed that only about 20% of
sunlight was reaching the ground. The only way to notice the sun was out
was a dimmed reflection on metal. Shadows were barely noticeable.
It was best compared to a HHH in the summer time. Yet, the AQI was good
locally. In fact, the only poor AQI was in south NJ. But the AQI
measures _ozone pollution_, not particulate matter.
The lack of sunlight put a dent in the temps. The rise in temp from 11am
to 5pm was only 7º. The high of 83 fell 6º shy of the forecast.
The sky resemebled a mid leval overcast, & was white to brown. The
cielings were between 14,000 & 20,000'. Generally AWOS's limit is
12,000'. Occasionally a hint of wood burning smoke was noticed.
The forecasted wind shift will remove smoke & haze from the area later
this am. Visibility fell to 7 miles Sunday evening.

A couple of pics from the TX flooding:
The flooding underneath the bridges is obvious However the water rushing
on top of the bridge (bottom of vidcap) is less noticeable.

The demand of the dams in the central TX has been great. In several
cases, water actually breached the top of the dams. A few had cracks
noted. But i believe only one was in danger of collapse (on Saturday).
