Flooding in South Texas
Report by WeatherMatrix Member Ed Slonaker
"Following are pictures of the Nueces River, near Old San Patricio, taken
today when the level was around 27 ft. Flood stage is 21 ft. The river is
expected to crest late tonight, but is also expected to maintain this level
for several days. This is all due to the heavy rains and extensive flooding
in Central Texas earlier this week. Lake Corpus Christi, located about 10
miles north of here, is held by the Wesley-Seale Dam, is at 100% capacity
and has 27 of their flood gates open to release water that is still
funneling into the lake. Choke Canyon Reservoir, even further up the Nueces
River, is fed by three rivers: the Nueces, the Frio, and the Atascosa, and
is at 65% capacity and has had their gates closed to cut back on the amount
of water feeding Lake Corpus Christi."
