[STORMREPORTS] Fwd: A Question On Smoky Air In Illinois 6/21

From: stwn192{at}aol.com
Date: Fri Jun 21 2002 - 22:06:43 EDT

Good afternoon,

Last night on my way home from work in northern Illinois, I noticed a
smoky smell in the air, I thought it was just someone having a camp fire
until I got home, 22 miles later, and it was still there. Today as the sun
beats down, it is casting a very orange glow across the ground. I thought it
might be a high cloud deck or some debris clouds from overnight thunderstorms
in Iowa until I called a friend that was working in Indiana and he is
experiencing the exact same white sky and weak sun. I am guessing that this
is the smoke that has carried up on the Southwest winds the last couple of
days from the fires in the West. Has anyone heard officially if this is the
case? Also is anyone else this far east experiencing the same situation and
if so do we know how far this smoke has carried? It is important to note that
when I smelled the smoke last night there was no wind with temperatures in
the middle 70's with high humidity. Should they issue warnings across the
country for the air quality as well? Guess we will have to wait and see.

Steven
