Local Fox television station is reporting that the Piedmont Triad Area of the
state of North Carolina (High Point, Greensboro, Winston Salem) is now in an
EXCEPTIONAL drought conditions... Exceptional is on step above Extreme on the
drought scale. This area is already 6 inches below normal. In the past four
year combined the total is 24 inches below normal with 18 of the 24 inches
falling in the past 18 months.
....WATER SUPPLIES LOW....
City of Greensboro has mandatory water restrictions in place. Greensboro has
also drained half of Lake Higgins holdings (2nd to 3rd water supply ... im
not all that familiar with their water supply system) to the cities main Lake
just so city pumps can get water out of the lake without causing damage to
the system. The City of High Point has it secondary Lake - Oak Hallow Lake;
continuously draining water to city lake to keep the city lake full and to be
able to supplement Greensboro and other local municipalities with water
supplies. Many creeks have dried up in the past couple of year and cut off
water supply to some who live out in the county and do not have municipal
water, causing them to have to dig extremely deep wells just to find a water
supply. A local NBC stations reported last night that well companies are
finding that they are having to dig hundereds of feet deep in order to find a
good source of water for the wells.
