From: Jesse Ferrell (WeatherMatrix) (jesse{at}weathermatrix.net)
Date: Tue Jun 25 2002 - 17:16:28 EDT

Information from my station in Central PA -- graphs & more at
http://www.weathermatrix.net/wxstation/obs/

HEAT INDEX:
Station One (6/24): 100 °F
Station Two (6/24): 99 °F
Station One (6/25): 100.0 °F {at} 04:11 pm
Station Two (6/25): 100 °F {at} 01:37 pm

HIGH TEMPERATURE:
Station One (6/24): 91.4 °F
Station Two (6/24): 94
Station One (6/25): 91 °F {at} 01:27 pm
Station Two (6/25): 91.2 °F {at} 04:11 pm

It is rare for the heat index to exceed 100 here. The temperature has only
exceeded 91 at this station 4 times since 1999 and only exceeded 94 twice.

NWS Official Temperatures 95+ at 5pm:

STA TMP DP RH WD WS G PRS ALT PCPN CLOUD LEVELS HGT TYP VIS WX
FBG 4pm 95 64 36 140 6 199 3012 40 BKN 200 BKN 7
GSB 5pm 95 66 38 210 7 3011 40 BKN 150 BKN 7
POB 5pm 99 66 34 210 10 197 3011 40 SCT 150 SCT 250 BKN 7
RDU 5pm 95 64 35 230 8 189 3010 65 SCT 250 BKN 10
GED 5pm 95 62 33 320 8 3004 LO CLR HI ??? 10

Many stations were over 100 for the heat index this afternoon, including
stations in PA, MD, VA, and NC. 108 on the MD coast was the highest I saw.

Many stations were over 100 for the AccuWeather RealFeel temperature at
5pm, including stations in all states between NY & NC. I saw 112 in MD & VA.

Excessive heat advisories were in effect for parts of PA, MD, NJ, DE, VA,
and WV.
