Hi,
June has been a very active month from a
meteorological perspective.
Lots of storms, impressive hailstorms and now, last
night, a cold
front pushing ESE, triggering linear storms in an
elevated unstable
airmass with good shear conditions (850mb: SSE at
15kt, 700mb: SW at
30kt, 500mb: WSW at 42kt)
strong storms moving ESE across the southernmost parts
of Germany
were the result.
Hail was reported from different communities farther
west from my
hometown (about 2-3cm), gusts up to 70km/h, amounts of
rain up to
50mm and a great lightning show with many anvil
crawlers.
We were on a chase that evening.
I wonder what could have happened here if the front
would have
entered the area in the early evening at the time of
max heating.
The highest activity could be seen around 3 a.m. (I
was still outside
filming!).
Lightning flash rate was at about 40/min at times.
Anyway, the line still was very nice, even so late (or
early)on the day.
Later,
Lars
