[STORMREPORTS] Rain and severe weather

From: Charles E. Roop (DaWeathaMan{at}cfl.rr.com)
Date: Sun Jun 23 2002 - 13:59:23 EDT

In Marion County, Florida on Saturday, severe weather and
rain pounded the area. A tornado warning was issued at about 2:29 PM
yesterday after officials reported a funnel cloud seven miles southeast
of Rainbow Lakes Estates. Wind damage was reported in Marion Oaks and
Rainbow Lakes Estates. There were no confirmed reports of a tornado. The
Ocala NOAA weather radio transmitter and the Ocala amateur radio
repeater (K4GSO) were knocked out of service for a few hours.

It wasn't over. The Storms sat over Marion County dumping a
lot of rain. Flood warnings were issued at 3:47 PM. Emergency Management
reported that numerous streets were impassable in the Ocala metro area.
Doppler radar estimates showed three inches of rain per hour.

When it was all said and done, at my house in Summerfield,
six inches of rain had fallen in my rain gauge in one day. What an
eventful day.
