Rainstorms damage houses, crops in Bangladesh; 1 killed (__nsou_ap)
"Lightning killed a man on a soccer field and injured several others
during fierce rainstorms
accompanied by twisters that have blown the roofs off houses and
uprooted trees, news reports
said Monday.
On Sunday, a twister lashed through five villages in northern Bogra
district, destroying about 200 mud-and-tin houses and uprooting
hundreds of trees. The tornado, which lasted about 2 minutes, blew
away tin roofs and household goods, and partially damaged brick
buildings, The Ittefaq, a Bengali-language newspaper reported.
Another twister damaged several straw and tin houses, injuring seven
people in Mymensingh district, 110 kilometers (70 miles) north of
Dhaka, the newspaper said.
Heavy torrential rains caused flooding in Brahmanbaria, Jamalpur and
Mymensingh districts bordering India, the news reports said."
