Flooding in Southern Prairies of Canada
"Flood waters rose, communities declared states of emergencies and hundreds
of people in Canada's southern prairies on Wednesday mopped up the damage
wrought by a record-breaking deluge.
The southeast corners of Manitoba and Alberta as well as northwest Ontario
bore the brunt of a storm system that in some places dumped as much as 300
millimeters (12 inches) of rain over three days.
At least eight municipalities in Manitoba, as well as the county of
Lethbridge, Alberta, have
declared states of emergency.
In Manitoba's Red River Valley, the flooding has washed out several country
roads, submerged cars and gushed into people's homes, barns and fields. }
