Here is an update:

"Flooding and mudslides caused by torrential rains have killed at least 179
people in western China and wrecked bridges and power stations, officials
said Wednesday.

In Shaanxi, 80,000 houses were destroyed or badly damaged and the Chinese
military has been called in to help with rescue work, Jiang said.

The flooding in Shaanxi washed out 13 bridges and 20 miles of highways and
railway lines, Jiang said. It also wrecked 29 hydroelectric stations.

Meanwhile, rains in the northwest region of Xinjiang have destroyed 500
homes and 4,000 acres of crop land, the official Xinhua News Agency said
Wednesday."
