Up to 30,000 Evacuated in Colo. Wildfires (Reuters)

DENVER (Reuters) - A ferocious wildfire closing in on the outskirts of
metropolitan Denver devoured tens of thousands more acres Monday, doubling
in size and forcing the evacuation of as many as 30,000 people, officials
said.

Diane Barney, a spokeswoman for the firefighting command center, said the
wind-whipped blaze about 55 miles southwest of Denver had spread to at
least 75,000 acres, double the size recorded Monday morning.

Low humidity, gusting winds and dry timber made conditions difficult for
firefighters battling blazes in the northwestern, southwestern,
southeastern and central parts of the state.
