Emergency crews on high alert as torrential rains flood rivers
(Associated Press)

Firefighters and other emergency workers were placed on high alert
Friday across the province of Lower Austria after rivers swollen from
torrential rains overflowed their banks. Numerous basements and garages
were flooded with as much as a meter (three feet) of water in the area,
said Jorg Wurzelberger, emergency services spokesman for Lower Austria.
