"The heat drove up California electricity use to a high for the year,
but there were no power shortages, reported Stephanie McCorkle,
spokeswoman for the California Independent Operator System.

Temperatures rose to 102 degrees in Brentwood and 101 in Walnut Creek
and Livermore, 100 in Danville, 98 in Pittsburg, 84 in Richmond and 83
in San Francisco.

Oakland set a record of 87 degrees, one degree more than the previous
record set in 1996.

Mountain View set a record of 92, six degrees warmer than the previous
high set in 1996.

Demand reached a peak of 41,1246 megawatts at 4:22 p.m."
