Nicaraguans Issued Flood Warnings
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) - Nicaragua's international airport shut down
temporarily and residents were evacuated from sections of the capital
Tuesday as heavy rains washed out sections of roadway and made city
streets impassable.
On Monday, the Honduran government declared a state of emergency after
heavy rains flooded the capital, Tegucigalpa, and left more than 100,000
people stranded in eastern Honduras.
Major floods were reported in Tegucigalpa, where 300 people were
evacuated, and in Danli province in southeastern Honduras. In Olancho
province, 80 miles east of Tegucigalpa, the rains washed out five
bridges, preventing thousands from leaving.
