A small tornado struck southern Charles County yesterday morning,
downing trees and destroying barns, almost three weeks after the
county was hit by one of the most violent tornadoes recorded in
Maryland. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado after
investigating damage in the area yesterday.
"There wasn't much in the way of structural damage," said Barbara
Watson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "Most of it
was flimsy barns and sheds that were flattened."
The tornado was ranked as F0 to F1, with peak winds estimated between
60 mph and 80 mph, she said. It touched down about seven miles south
