Phil,
Thanks for passing along those images. I have a Java animation
of GOES-8 visible imagery from that afternoon, with images
every 5-10 minutes (since GRB called RSO that day):

A well-defined west-east boundary was in place across the region,
which likely played a role in convective initiation and
storm propagation...
