We had a rare morning thunderstorm here at WeatherMatrix HQ in central
Pennsylvania this morning. The details including video captures & radar
images and lightning strike plots, are available on the WeatherMatrix site:
http://www.weathermatrix.net/2002/0420/
The WeatherMatrix HQ Lightning
Detection systems observed about 120 strikes from this storm with up to 33
strikes per minute and a 265% energy ratio with 22 close strikes, which is much
higher than normal since the storm was so close. According to
GAI, the official lightning people, there were about 20 cloud-to-ground
strikes, two of which I
observed.
