We here in Bell County, about 60 miles north of Austin, were put under a Tornado
Watch at 3:30 p.m. to be in effect until 8:00 p.m. Another Tornado Watch for the
counties to our south was issued at 5:00 p.m. to be in effect until 10:00 p.m.
Both Tornado Watches were replaced by a single Severe Thunderstorm Watch at 7:30
p.m. to be in effect until 1:00 a.m. this (Monday) morning.

We were watching the line move in from the west during the afternoon,
particularly a storm that developed south of San Angelo and was approaching from
the SW. There were several Tornado Warnings issued for this storm. This was the
same track that a couple of particularly nasty storms had approached and passed
through the county previously, one causing some significant hail damage about
two years ago.

Bell County was put under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 8:15 p.m. as the line
of storms entered from the west. I'm not sure what happened as I was out
spotting, but the large storm approaching from the SW either ran into an
unfavorable atmosphere or the loss of daytime heating ( it was shortly after
sunset as the line moved through) caused it to weaken somewhat as it entered the
county.

We experienced heavy rain reported by spotters at 2" per hour, some 1" hail
reports but was most were 3/4" or less. Highest wind gust I heard was 45 mph.
There was extensive lightning with the storm but only a couple of short power
outages reported. There was also some minor street flooding. The storm has
exited the county by shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Rain totals ranged from .90" to 1.50"

Ronnie
