 From today's Middletown Journal:

Sudden snow causes crashes By Joann Rouse MONROE ‹ A sudden onslaught of
snow on I-75 Monday in Warren County led to 10 crashes involving 34 cars
within a one-hour period. Police said there were no serious injuries ‹ just
plenty of fender-benders. Traffic slowed to a near halt along the
northbound lanes of I-75 in Warren County for at least two hours. State
troopers said the snow melted in the sun, then quickly turned to ice
between Ohio 63 and Ohio 122. Even the state troopers did not escape
unscathed. "Trooper (Tim) Patton was investigating a two-car crash on 75
south of 122 on the median when he was struck by a car," said Ohio Highway
Patrol dispatcher Travis Jones. In another crash, a truck overtook a
tractor-trailer rig in the right lane. But when the truck slowed down, it
began to weave, forcing the tractor-trailer driver to try to get out of the
way. The tractor-trailer jackknifed about 10:30 a.m. in the north lane of
I-75 near the Greentree Road underpass. "One of the accidents was an
eight-car (collision)," Jones said. "It was chaos." Troopers reported
conditions as "heavy traffic in blizzard conditions." A separate four-car
crash led to three cars in a ditch and another on the right berm, Jones
said. Another multiple-car accident included a hit-and-run driver. Drivers
said traffic slowed to about 30 mph before and during the crashes, but that
they were unprepared for the ice patches that suddenly appeared on the
highway.
