There was quite an interesting weather situation that shaped up
overnight last night, which brought some pretty heavy snowfall to
central and eastern Maine this morning. Meteorologically speaking, what
we call a "Norlun Trough" set up over southern and eastern parts of
Maine last night. This is a disturbance in the upper atmosphere, which
when conditions are right, acts as a focusing mechanism for persistent,
moderate to heavy snowfall. Snowfall rates in the affected area were
observed at 1"-2" an hour through most of the night and into this
morning. Maine received a wide range of snowfall totals with anywhere
from 1" in the Princeton area to as high as 17" in Bucksport. For the
most part, the snow has come to an end with the exception of a few
scattered snow showers over northern Maine.
An area of high pressure will build into the mid-Atlantic states,
helping to thin the clouds out over New England this afternoon. Another
storm system located over central Canada this morning will quickly race
east/southeastward today and bring Maine another chance of light snow,
beginning across western Maine around daybreak Thursday and then
spreading over the rest of the area during the day Thursday. Quiet
weather will return in time for the weekend along with much colder
temperatures.
Today… any leftover snow showers will come to an end this morning with
a mixture of sun and clouds developing as we go through the afternoon.
Highs will be in the 20's to near 30° with a northwest wind at 10-15
MPH. Overnight… clouds will move back into the region, western
sections of Maine may see some light snow towards daybreak. Nighttime
lows will be very chilly, 2°-12° with a light northwest wind.

I will be adding these storm pictures They got more snow than the
"Noreast Bomb."
Weather predicting is definitely a challenge, not being an exact
science.
