It sounds like my location in Sabattus must have been in a quiet spot for
Sundays blizzard.
Although it was a nasty little storm we only ended up with a wet 4" of
snow. Although Accuweather and others forecasted 2 feet of snow for some
N.E. areas ( this forecast as well as other mentions of the 2 foot forecast
can be read in storm reports # 586 & 587) It was a surprise storm that
appears to have fizzled in very few places, but it was quite interesting to
hear loud claps of thunder as the rain shifted over to snow. I didn't see
any lightening though.
We are currently experiencing another snow event with about 2 to 3 inches
on the ground thus far. Traveling today seems to be the big story here now.
It was somewhat difficult on the Maine Turnpike most of the day. The
freezing rain and ice fell hard at times & with the air temperature about 23
degrees, it froze soon as it hit the windshield and ground making driving
difficult to say the least. Most drivers slowed to the reduced speed limit
if 45, or less in many cases, except for nearly every big rig that zoomed
past, providing the obligatory blinding spray from their tires...
