[STORMREPORTS] SSW Florida January Thunderstorm

It doesn't happen too often, but we had a January heavy
thunderstorm in Cape Coral Monday night. It began
about 11PM. We new rain was a possibility but a full
blown thunder storm was not expected as all of the
heavier weather was to be to the north of us coming
across from the Gulf of Mexico. We had strong wind
gusts and heavy lightning and thunder. Rain was very
heavy for about 1 1/2 hours as in that time we received
1.6 inches of rain (measured in my rain gauge). At
2:45AM, a second squall came thru accented by heavy
thunder. A steady rain began which lasted until morning
daylight; this added another .3 inch making a total of
1.9 inches of rain. This was a welcome event to help
insure that we have enough water to get thru the dry
season without the drought problems of last year. It
was not snow, but this was a big storm. The result will
be warmer temperatures approaching 80 degrees F later
in the week. At present it is 72 degrees F. We welcome
the return to our normal temperature levels. Richard
