THE SNOW DROUGHT IS OVER!!
Having waited 2 1/2 months past the normal begin of the snow season is
long enough. The snow began falling aloft about 11:30am. It reached the
ground at 12:54pm, and within half hour the ground had a dusting.
Snowfall has been occasionally heavy, and mixed with graupel at times.
At 2:45pm, the accumulation was 1.5". Air temp has fallen to 29º, and
there is North breeze of about 8 mph.
Checking current (4pm) radar images, the heaviest snowfall is now north
of my region. Occasional light snow showers should end by late evening.
Radar is showing the back edge of the precip, about 70 miles south of
me.
My original forecast (made Friday) was 4-8" ; realistically, only 3-4"
should fall. The NWS upped the forecast this am to 6-9". The new AFD is
not ready, but i would imagine the warning could be downgraded/
cancelled early this evening.
And 2 late PS's: Blackburg's AFD is out now. They have cancelled the
Winter Storm Warning for their area, and left a Winter Wx Adv for their
mnt zones, where 2-4" of new snow will be forecasted thru Mon afternoon.
Also my precip type is now alternating between IP and Light snow, [there
goes the accumulation]. ):
More details later this evening...
