CNN:
Europe's Arctic weather continues
The Arctic weather that has swept across southern
and eastern parts of Europe is set to spread further
before it abates, forecasters have warned.
Snow storms, gale-force winds and heavy rain in Greece have already left
two
people missing and forced the closure of airports, major highways and
ports.
Meanwhile, rare snowfalls have been reported south of the Alps, while
heavy
storms and widespread flooding has caused chaos on Turkey.
News agency Itar-Tass reported five deaths in Moscow last weekend and
the
hospitalisation of 81 people with hypothermia mostly "in an advanced
state of
inebriation."
The Pacific peninsula of Kamchatka has been cut off by a week of
snowstorms
which have forced all flights to be cancelled.
Poland has counted 135 weather-related deaths so far, above the total
toll for last
winter of 112 but below the 1998-99 count of 154.
Floods have struck Turkey's Mediterranean coast with five people missing
after
waters swept through a village near the resort of Antalya, Anatolian
news agency
reported.
